Union Depot in downtown St. Paul will host its first in a series of three free Union Depot Dance Nights on Monday, April 20 from 6:30-9 p.m. in the Waiting Room. Each event will begin with 30 minutes of free professional dance instruction followed by two hours of dancing to a live band. Green Mill Catering will host concessions with pizza and beer, wine and other beverages available for purchase. Union Depot Dance Nights are open to all ages and will feature live music by many of the Twin Cities’ most popular dance bands, offering great entertainment even for those who don’t wish to dance.
The Union Depot Dance Nights will be held on the third Monday of each month from April through June. The April 20 event theme will be Salsa Dancing with live music by Salsa del Soul. Salsa del Soul is a nine-piece orchestra comprised of some of the Twin Cities’ top Latin music talents. The group performs various styles of dance music from the Spanish-speaking regions of the Caribbean, heating up dance floors with the sultry sounds of Cha-cha-cha, Timba, Salsa and more. Free dance lessons will be taught at all three events by professional instructor Denny Hukriede.
On May 18 Union Depot will host Beasley’s Big Band for a night of Swing Dancing. The band has been performing for more than 20 years in Big Band Jazz in the style of the Count Basie Orchestra, delighting audiences with its renditions of music by Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington and many other jazz greats. Instructor Denny Hukriede will also teach dance lessons at this event. The June 15 theme will be Tango with live music by violinist Sara Pajunen, accordionist Patrick Harison and bassist Nick Gaudette. The trio will perform a variety of American and Argentinian Tango music with a dose of Finnish Tango as well. For more information about Union Depot Dance Nights, please visit our Events Calendar.
