2016 Amateur and Hobby Photographer’s Exhibit

Union Depot in Saint Paul has a long and rich railroading history.  The Ramsey County Regional Railroad Authority is seeking photographs to display in the second annual amateur and hobby photographer’s exhibit at Union Depot. The exhibit will launch on Union Depot Train Days (April 30 & May 1) and run for a month.  The exhibit will be curated by Ramsey County Regional Railroad Authority and JLL.  Photos of historic and modern train equipment – engines, passenger cars, freight cars and light rail at Union Depot – will be accepted for consideration.

Ramsey County Regional Railroad Authority will not offer compensation for use of the photo(s).

Amateur and hobby photographers are encouraged to select their best image(s) and may submit up to four (4) photos for consideration.  Digital, Instagram and film (scanned for submission) versions of photos will be considered.

Complete submissions will include:

  • Digital version of photo(s) – up to four – in PDF or on a photo sharing website
  • Photographer name
  • Phone number – daytime or cell
  • Email address

Submissions will be accepted from April 1 – 10, 2016.

Only complete submissions will be considered.

Selection of photos for the exhibit will be made after April 10, 2016.

Only photographers for the exhibit will be notified on April 15, 2016.

If selected:

The photographer will prepare a bio and a description of the photo(s).

The original photo(s) will be printed and framed by the photographer for display in the exhibit.

The photo(s) shall be displayed in a black frame with a wire or other hardware for attaching to a picture hook.

Photographer may request use of a frame from the Regional Railroad Authority for photo during exhibition. Frame sizes that may be available on a first-come, first-served basis are 16”x20”, 18”x24” and 24”x36”.

The photo(s) shall be printed in a format not to exceed 24” x 36” format.  Portrait or landscape orientation is acceptable.

The framed photo(s) must be in good condition – no torn, stained, reproduced or newspaper photos will be accepted.

The photo(s) will be delivered by the photographer to Union Depot April 25 – 29, 2016 and picked up June 6 – 10, 2016.

The original photo(s) will remain the property of the photographer.

Ramsey County Regional Railroad Authority is not responsible for damage occurring during exhibiting of photo(s).

Union Depot Adds Free Weekly Monday Evening Yoga Sculpt Class Taught by Instructors from Studio925 by CorePower Yoga & Spa

Union Depot in downtown St. Paul has added another free yoga opportunity to its weekly schedule of classes open to the public.  The new class, Yoga Sculpt done with no weights, will be held weekly on Mondays beginning April 4 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and will be taught by skilled instructors from Studio925.  No advance registration is required.

Yoga Sculpt with no weights is a total body workout designed to tone and sculpt every major muscle group.  This class will increase the heart rate with an easy-to-follow program and complements regular yoga practice by increasing overall strength.  Union Depot also offers free yoga classes on Tuesday from 12:00-1:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00-10:00 a.m.  The Tuesday classes are at Intermediate level and the Saturday classes are at a variety of skill levels, with the first Saturday of the month focused on Beginner level. Classes are held in the Waiting Room and guests are asked to bring their own towel, water and yoga mat.  If the Waiting Room is closed for a private event, classes take place in the Head House under the East clock unless otherwise noted.  For more information about the classes, visit https://www.uniondepot.org/events/eventcalendar/.

Lowertown Pop at Union Depot to Feature 56 Minnesota Maker Products from Local Artisans and Craftspeople

The roster of talented Minnesota Makers showcasing their wares at the April 9 Lowertown Pop at Union Depot in downtown St. Paul has grown to 56 vendors.  The event, being held in partnership with Becky Sturm of StormSister Spatique, will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Waiting Room at Union Depot and will include live demos on the main stage throughout the event.

Lowertown Pop is a Minnesota Maker market featuring local artisans and craftspeople including brewers, bakers, distillers, artists and musicians.  The event will benefit Face to Face, a non-profit organization serving more than 3,300 youth ages 11-24 annually with health care and counseling, and programs for homeless youth.  Fifty percent of ticket sales will be donated to Face to Face and 50 percent will be given to one lucky Minnesota Maker.

Advance tickets are $10 each with free admission for children ages five and under (tickets are $15 at the door).  Admission at the door is $10 for American Craft Council members or guests who show their ticket stub from the American Craft Council show that will take place April 8-10 at St. Paul’s River Centre.
